Capacity Building

Civil society and anti-discrimination

The EU-funded project Capacity Building Civil Society Dealing With Anti-Discrimination was developed in 2004/2005 by Human European Consultancy and MPG to strengthen civil society in the 10 new Member States as well as Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey.

The project products are as follows:

The overall objective was to research, design and conduct a training programme to help build NGOs' capacity and knowledge concerning EU policies and the role of civil society in relation to the anti-discrimination directives and their national implementation.

The mapping of the situation of national NGOs dealing with anti-discrimination (the 5 grounds) and an analysis of how civil society operates in each target country served to assess needs at national level and develop training specifications and modules.

The training manual (translated in the national languages of the countries involved in the project) on both methodology and content of anti-discrimination law was tested during the "train the trainers" seminars and used by the national trainers during the national seminars.
