Summary
In the framework of the “Awareness-raising in the areas of non-discrimination and equality targeted at civil society organisations” project (ART), the Steering Committee held its final meeting on 21 May 2012
Description
The role of the Steering Committee is to provide its expertise throughout the general implementation of the ART project.
The overall goal of this project was to improve the impact and effectiveness of civil society organisations with regard to the implementation and the promotion of equality and non-discrimination policies. In each of the countries covered by this project (EU Member States, Norway, Iceland, Croatia, FYROM, Serbia and Turkey), two national facilitators (trainers) were selected and trained by international coordinators to in turn train civil society organisations during the national seminars organised in all target countries between October 2011 and March 2012. In total, over 1,100 people have been trained on anti-discrimination issues, including strategic planning and collecting information, communication and media, networking and building partnerships, lobbying and advocacy, monitoring, the use of situation testing and code of conducts. Training modules were based on a needs assessment carried out at the beginning of the project.
In April 2012, a closing seminar was held to present the results of the national seminars, including suggestions and recommendations for further action and dissemination of the training material. National trainers, participants to the national seminars, representatives of the European Commission and representatives of EU umbrella organisations attended the closing seminar held in Brussels.
On 21 May 2012, final outcomes of the training project and recommendations for follow-up were presented to the Steering Committee and the European Commission.
