Summary
MPG Policy Analyst Jasper Dag Tjaden will speak on the international comparison of education outcomes and policies for immigrants, and will present his paper on migrant education in comparative perspective.
Description
Education is probably the most important driving force for social mobility and social integration. But the education system in Belgium fails miserably in that duty with regard to non-European immigrants. For this group, our education system is creating discrimination instead of progress. If we cannot switch over we risk ending up with lost generations and a demographic time bomb. What do we need to do to make education successful for those that need it the most? What is the duty of the government, schools? Which role do parents have? Which lessons can we draw from foreign experiences? How are the different school systems disposed towards this challenge? And what is the experience on the field itself?
This event is organised by the Itinera Institute.
