The European Migration Forum is a platform established by the European Commission in cooperation with the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), where civil society organisations and the European institutions meet to discuss immigration, asylum and migrant integration.
It has developed from the European Integration Forum, of which eleven meetings took place between April 2009 and April 2014. The objective of the Forum is to provide representatives of civil society a voice on issues related to migration, asylum and migrant integration, in particular relating to the EU agenda thereon, and for the Commission to take a pro-active role in such discussions. This will allow the European institutions to promote a comprehensive approach to migration, involving stakeholders at all levels.
The Forum is traditionally attended by organisations representing civil society at European and national level, representatives from various EU institutions, from local and regional authorities and from EU member states. The Forum takes place at least once a year.
MPG Programme Director Thomas Huddleston will act as final rapporteur, addressing the political panel including Dimitris Avramopoulos, the new European Commissionner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship.
