Legal framework and practice in the EU Member States (‘Mapping report’)

The purpose of the Mapping report is to provide analysis and relevant information on the national legal frameworks, policies and activities in the field of equality data collection in the EU Member States. The Mapping report is based on national reports, of which it contains concise summaries, produced by country experts on equality data. The Mapping report focuses on the five main areas covered by the project:

  • the relevant legal frameworks for equality data collection,
  • which equality data are collected by the national authorities,
  • the frequency of equality data collection,
  • definitions and categories used to collect equality data, and
  • how the equality data collected is used.

While some countries such as Finland and the United Kingdom can be highlighted as putting in place good practice examples with regards to the collection and use of equality data, the general conclusions of the mapping exercise show that much work is still needed from national policy makers and legislators to ensure more, better equality data.
