The Europe 2020 Strategy and the Stockholm Programme recognise the potential of migration for building a competitive and sustainable economy. Currently, however, there are wide socio-economic disparities between third-country nationals and EU citizens, with immigrants experiencing higher rates of unemployment, over-qualification, low economic achievement, low income and poor health.
Three years on since the renewed European Agenda for the Integration of Third-Country Nationals, this international symposium provides a good opportunity to discuss the current challenges of migration and integration in Europe, and to reignite the debate about an EU-wide strategy to improve integration policies across Member States.
