It is with immense honor and pride as the former Chair of the Starting Line Group to commemorate the thirtieth anniversary of the Migration Policy Group. This milestone is not just a celebration of longevity, but a testament to unwavering commitment to advancing fair and effective migration policies that uphold the dignity and rights of all individuals.<\/p>\n

Thirty years ago, a vision was born. It was a vision of a world where migration is not seen as a threat, but as an opportunity for growth, enrichment, and mutual understanding. From our humble beginnings, the Migration Policy Group has grown into a formidable force, advocating for the rights of migrants, influencing policy, and fostering dialogue between diverse communities.<\/p>\n

In this journey, we must acknowledge the tireless efforts of those who laid the foundation for your work. The founders, in particular Dev Sharma who was the former Chief Executive Officer of the Commission for Racial Equality in London and Barbara John of the former Commissioner for \u00a0Foreigners of Berlin Senate envisaged a world where migration policies are informed by evidence, guided by principles of justice and equality, and driven by the collective aspiration for a more inclusive society. Their vision has been our guiding light, and today, we honor their legacy.<\/p>\n

Over the past three decades, the Migration Policy Group has been at the forefront of numerous groundbreaking initiatives, including the Starting Line Group to lobbying for the EU level of discrimination law for migrants in 90s. They have conducted extensive research, provided invaluable policy recommendations, and facilitated crucial dialogues between stakeholders. Their work has not only shaped migration policies in Europe but has also resonated globally, inspiring similar initiatives across the world.<\/p>\n

One of their most significant achievements has been their ability to adapt to the ever-changing landscape of migration. The world today is vastly different from what it was thirty years ago. Globalization, technological advancements, and geopolitical shifts have all impacted migration patterns. Yet, through it all, we have remained steadfast in their mission, continually evolving to address new challenges and seize emerging opportunities.<\/p>\n

The impact can be seen in the lives they have touched. The migrant families who have found a home and a sense of belonging, the policymakers who have been guided by their research, and the communities that have become more inclusive and cohesive \u2013 all these are testament to their hard work and dedication.<\/p>\n

As we celebrate this milestone, it is also a moment for us to look to the future. The challenges ahead are significant, but so are the opportunities. Climate change, political instability, and economic disparities will continue to drive migration. However, with these challenges come opportunities for us to reaffirm the commitment, continue to advocate for policies that are humane, just, and inclusive, to harness the power of technology to improve migrant integration and ensure that the research and recommendations are grounded in the lived experiences of migrants. We must also continue to build bridges between communities, fostering understanding and solidarity.<\/p>\n

The success of Migration Policy Group has always been rooted in collaboration. Moving forward means strengthen the partnerships with governments, civil society, academia, and the private sector. Together, we can create a world where migration is a choice, not a necessity; where migrants are seen as contributors, not burdens; and where the humanity of every individual is recognized and celebrated.<\/p>\n
