This in turn makes people fall through the cracks, causing them to become undocumented.<\/p>\n<p>Interviewed by Euronews <a href=\"https:\/\/www.migpolgroup.com\/index.php\/staff-member\/basak-yavcan\/\">MPG&#8217;s Head of Research Dr. Ba\u015fak Yav\u00e7an<\/a> stated &#8220;What we see with externalisation policies is that funds are provided to non-EU countries in return for border security. Often these funds come without strict overseeing mechanisms to monitor human rights violations. In addition, these policies empower the leaders of these countries, some of which have oppressive authoritarian leaders. This in turn can drive more migration.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Instead, we should address the root causes that force people to migrate, such as global inequalities, political instability and increasingly also the climate crisis.
