<\/div>[vc_column_text]About the academy<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Democracy Academy is an annual series of online events meant to boost the civic and <\/span>political participation of people from various migration backgrounds. It brings together <\/span>emerging New European leaders with strong interest in civic and political participation in a <\/span>space for training, knowledge-sharing and networking. During the sessions, the participants <\/span>engage with Democracy Academy Speakers \u2013 experienced migrant leaders with proven <\/span>successes in work related to the themes of the academy.<\/span><\/p>\n

The participants who successfully complete the academy receive a certificate. They are <\/span>better able to maximise their engagement in decision-making processes and amplify fellow <\/span>New Europeans\u2019 civic and political participation.<\/span><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s edition<\/strong><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s academy builds upon the successes, lessons learned and feedback from the first <\/a><\/span>2023 edition\u2019s graduates. This year, the academy will take place over 5 interactive online <\/span>sessions with experts from the Migration Policy Group (MPG) and guest speakers who are <\/span>leaders in their fields. Those who take part in the Democracy Academy will dive into various <\/span>topics, including participation, evidence-based advocacy, sustainability and resiliance, <\/span>organising and campaining.<\/span><\/p>\n

These topics will be examined thorugh the participants\u2019 own experience, but will also be <\/span>placed in the context of the current environment, accounting for issues such as the rise <\/span>populist movements. Practical matters such as how to successfully communicate will also <\/span>be explored through group discussions and exercises.<\/span><\/p>\n

The online sessions will take place over five Tuesdays in the period 5 November \u2013 10 <\/span>December (5, 12, 19 and 26 November, and 10 December), and will last about 3 hours each.<\/span><\/p>\n

Eligibility and how to apply<\/strong><\/p>\n

The academy is open to New Europeans with prior political or civic participation experience.<\/span><\/p>\n

The term \u201cNew Europeans\u201d here stands for people with various migragration background. <\/span>We interpret New Europeans in a broad sense and welcome applications from diverse <\/span>groups, including: people of various migrant backgrounds residing in the EU, such as non-<\/span>EU nationals regardless of their status, EU citizens who are naturalised migrants, people <\/span>whose parents or grandparents were migrants, as well as EU citizens who have migrated <\/span>within the EU.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Prior experience with political and civic participation may include experience in community <\/span>organising, civil society or politics. Experiences at the local, national or international levels <\/span>are all relevant.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Participation in the Democracy Academy is free.<\/span><\/p>\n

Those who successfully engage in all the sessions will be awarded a certificate. <\/span>To apply, fill in this application form<\/a> and upload an updated CV until the end of <\/strong><\/span>Sunday, 15 September 2024, at the latest<\/strong>. Successful applicants will be notified in the <\/span>week following the deadline.<\/span><\/p>\n

Throughout the selection process, special care will be taken to ensure that the group of <\/span>participants is diverse in terms of gender, migration background and previous participation <\/span>experience.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
