The academy brings provides a\u00a0space for training, knowledge-sharing and networking. During the sessions, the participants\u00a0engage with the Democracy Academy speakers \u2013 experienced (migrant) leaders with proven\u00a0track record of successes related to the themes of the academy.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Why should you apply?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The participants who successfully complete the academy receive a certificate. They are\u00a0better able to maximise their engagement in decision-making processes and amplify fellow\u00a0New Europeans\u2019 civic and political participation.<\/p>\n<p>Alumni from the previous editions have applied strategies and ideas learned during the academy in their subsequent work. They have also formed lasting connections with the rest of the participants and the speakers, extending their work together beyond the context of the academy, too.<\/p>\n<p>By attending the academy, you will unlock access to find-hand resources on main issues related to participation and join a cohort of like-minded individuals based across the EU.<\/p>\n<p>See all about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.migpolgroup.com\/index.php\/2025\/01\/16\/outcomes-democracy-academy-2024\/\">last year\u2019s academy<\/a> and the speakers who made is happen.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>This year\u2019s edition<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The 2025 academy will further build upon the successes and lessons learned from the previous editions. The 2025 sessions will take place over the following 5 consecutive Thursdays in November and December and will cover the following topics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Session 1: 13 November &#8211; <strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Meaningful participation<\/strong><strong>, <\/strong>led by<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Razan Ismail<\/strong>, Founder of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/kudwa.org\/\">Kudwa Association<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Session 2: 20 November &#8211; <strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Evidence-based advocacy<\/strong>, led by<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Jair Schalkwijk<\/strong><strong>, <\/strong>Project Leader at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/controlealtdelete.nl\/#gsc.tab=0\">Controle Alt Delete<\/a>\u00a0&amp;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.izi-solutions.com\/\">IZI Solutions<\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">Session 3: 27 November &#8211; <strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Organising for sustainability and resilience<\/strong>, led by\u00a0<strong>Juliana<\/strong><strong> Santos Wahlgren<\/strong><strong>, <\/strong>Director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eapn.eu\/\">European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN)<\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">Session 4: 4 December &#8211; <strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Mobilising and campaigning<\/strong>, led by<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Adnan Abdul Ghani<\/strong>, Founder of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/supportgroup.se\/\">Support Group Network (SGN)<\/a>\u00a0and EU Project Manager at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.savethechildren.net\/what-we-do\/advocacy\/save-children-europe\">Save the Children<\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">Session 5:\u00a0 11 December &#8211;<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Communicating for change, <\/strong>led by <a href=\"https:\/\/kristindannevig.com\/\">Kristin Dannevig<\/a>, strategic communications consultant.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each session will last 3 hours, from 13:00 to 16:00 Brussels time.<\/p>\n<p>These issues will be examined through the lens of the participants\u2019 own experience, but will also be\u00a0placed in the context of the current political and media environments. Feedback from the alumni of the previous academy editions will again be used to further tailor the sessions for an optimal experience.<\/p>\n<p>Stay tuned for all relevant updates by following MPG.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Eligibility and how to apply<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The academy is open to New Europeans with some level of prior political or civic participation experience.<\/p>\n<p>The term \u201cNew Europeans\u201d here stands for people with various migration backgrounds.\u00a0We interpret New Europeans in a broad sense and welcome applications from diverse\u00a0groups, including: people of various migrant backgrounds residing in the EU, such as non-EU nationals regardless of their status, EU citizens who are naturalised migrants, people\u00a0whose parents or grandparents were migrants, as well as EU citizens who have migrated\u00a0within the EU.<\/p>\n<p>Prior experience with political and civic participation may include community\u00a0organising, as well as work in civil society or politics. Experiences at the local, national or international levels\u00a0are all relevant.\u00a0However, we call on all those interested to not be discouraged to apply even if their experience is still more limited, as we are keen to hear from emerging voices in the field and ensure a balanced make-up of the classes.<\/p>\n<p>Participation in the Democracy Academy is free.<\/p>\n<p>Those who successfully engage in all the sessions will be awarded a certificate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To apply, <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSenPhtv89zGpYS51jnb8FJoEbg1mieiesgL7CE0OD-zWzTk3A\/viewform?usp=preview\"><strong>fill in\u00a0this application form<\/strong><\/a><strong> and upload an updated CV\u00a0until the end of 28 September 2025, Sunday, at the latest<\/strong>.
