[vc_row][vc_column width=”2\/3″][vc_column_text]The European network of legal experts in gender equality and non-discrimination (European Equality Law Network, <\/span>EELN<\/span><\/a>) have now published the 2021 country reports for 36 countries and this year\u2019s second European equality law review on their <\/span>website<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

MPG is proud to have continued to play a key role in the EELN, with MPG\u2019s director, Isabelle Chopin, and MPG\u2019s Legal Policy Analyst, Catharina Germaine, serving as the network\u2019s \u2018Specialist Coordinator for Non-discrimination Law\u2019 and \u2018Content Manager for Non-discrimination Law\u2019, respectively.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

MPG has historically played an important role advocating for improvements to non-discrimination law in the EU and coordinating anti-discrimination networks.<\/span><\/p>\n

Good practices on national non-discrimination law, and the context of COVID-19<\/span><\/h2>\n

The EELN country reports are a key resource for legal scholars, researchers and activists working in the area of non-discrimination law. They provide a detailed update of the transposition as well as the practical application of non-discrimination law throughout each EU Member State as well as the UK, the EFTA countries and five candidate countries.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Notably, the country reports provide insight into the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and of measures adopted to combat it on vulnerable groups such as Roma communities, older people and persons with disabilities.<\/span><\/p>\n

The reports are also important for policy makers as the EELN experts highlight issues of concern across all the countries, as well as good practices. Policy makers can therefore learn from good examples of work done to combat and\/or prevent discrimination with regard to any of the grounds covered: racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, age, disability and sexual orientation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Recent developments in national and EU law in gender equality and non-discrimination<\/span><\/h2>\n

The European equality law review, issue 2021\/2, provides a highly valuable update of the most recent developments across the 36 countries covered, such as newly adopted legislation, landmark case law or processes of restructuring of national equality bodies.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It also provides key summaries of some of the most important recent decisions handed down by the Court of Justice of the EU and of the European Court of Human Rights in relation to non-discrimination and gender equality law. This issue opens with three in-depth articles: a comparative analysis of pay transparency best practices and challenges in Belgium, Denmark and Iceland; a exploration of the healthcare situation of Roma and Traveller communities in Bulgaria, Ireland and Slovakia; and a comparative analysis of national non-discrimination law evaluations in Austria, Belgium, Poland, and Sweden.<\/span><\/p>\n
