What is included in the review?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

This issue provides an overview of the most important and relevant legal and policy developments in the fields of gender equality and non-discrimination at national level across Europe from 1 July to 31 December 2021, as well as summaries of the most important case law from the Court of Justice of the EU and the European Court of Human Rights in these fields.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally, this issue contains four in-depth articles:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. \u2018Actio popularis \u2013 potentials and challenges\u2019<\/span><\/i> by Andr\u00e1s K\u00e1d\u00e1r, the non-discrimination expert for Hungary, who explores the role of actio popularis actions in promoting equal treatment of Roma in Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia.

  2. Failure to provide a reasonable accommodation as a form of disability discrimination?\u2019 <\/span><\/i>by <\/span>Carmine Conte<\/span><\/a>, MPG\u2019s Legal Policy Analyst, who explores the legal frameworks regarding the denial of reasonable accommodation to employees and jobseekers with disabilities in Denmark, France, Ireland and Italy.<\/span><\/span> <\/li>\n
  3. \u2018Protecting trans, non-binary and intersex persons against discrimination in EU law\u2019<\/span><\/i> by Peter Cannoot and Sarah Ganty from the University of Ghent, who look at the protection against discrimination in EU law of trans, non-binary and intersex persons.<\/span><\/span> <\/li>\n
  4. Gender equality and pensions: time for an EU strategy to achieve substantive equality between men and women in old age\u2019 <\/span><\/i>by Sabrina D\u2019Andrea, who investigates the pension pay gap in the EU, and identifies ways forward for the EU in its efforts to achieve substantive gender equality in pensions.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Why does it matter?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

    The publishing of European Equality Law Reviews provides a means through which to monitor legal and policy developments \u2014 both positive and negative \u2014 in the fields of gender equality and non-discrimination across Europe. The ability to monitor such developments is the first step toward progress in these areas, as it provides the knowledge necessary to make informed decisions and to correctly assess the transposition and implementation of EU law at the national level. In providing this knowledge, MPG\u2019s involvement in the network contributes to <\/span>MPG\u2019s vision<\/span><\/a> of creating societies in which \u2018people of all backgrounds must have and should know and use their rights to equal treatment and equal opportunities.\u2019\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
