This paper by Zeynep Avci, Feyza Tantekin Erden, and Fatma Yalçın explores the importance of designing educational settings that cater to the diverse needs of migrant newcomers, aiming to promote integration and eliminate inequality. The paper analyzes the early childhood education curriculum of the top five countries ranked in the educational integration domain of the Migrant Integration Policy Index (MIPEX). Using document analysis, the study concludes that integration is fostered through targeted curricula emphasizing democratic and humanitarian values and rights. The flexibility of these curricula enables practitioners to adapt to local needs.
“Comparing Immigration Law: A Quantitative Toolbox”
This chapter by Samuel D. Schmid in the inaugural edition of the Oxford Handbook of Comparative Immigration Law addresses the current methodological debate in comparative law, advocating for greater use of quantitative tools from the social sciences. Comparative constitutional studies are highlighted for their interdisciplinary approach. The author argues for an interdisciplinary and quantitative study of comparative immigration law using large-scale data. The chapter provides a toolbox for methodological challenges this faces, covering immigration law domains, conceptual tools, historical evolution of migration studies, and databases for analysis.

This paper by Anna Mouti and Lorenzo Rocca explores linguistic integration of adult refugees and migrants in Greece and Italy. Both countries share a double role as host and transition countries. The study aims to provide an overview of the language requirements and language-learning opportunities in the migration context in Greece and Italy. Through a comparative analysis scrutinizing the processes of linguistic integration in both countries, the paper examines the linguistic integration process. The paper finds that the use and implementation of the Knowledge of Society (KoS) tests differentiates between the two contexts, despite similar language requirements in both countries. These findings align with results from MIPEX and LAPIM.
