August MIPEX in Use

The is a unique tool which measures integration policies in 56 countries across 8 policy areas. It provides up-to-date, comprehensive research data and analysis on which to base policies, proposals for change and projects.
Besides data on national integration policies, MPG now also gather data on policies at the regional – Regin (MIPEX-R) – and local levels – Whole-COMM (MIPEX-L).
The article references MIPEX to highlight global disparities in integration policies. It notes that while many Global North countries score between 80–100, indicating favorable conditions for migrant integration, Global South countries, including South Africa, fall into the lower range of 41–59. This comparison underscores the limited institutional and policy support for migrant integration in the Global South, reinforcing the need for stronger local governance responses like those explored in the study.
Handbook on Education and Labour Market
This book examines how EU institutions influence migration and mobility policies for both third-country nationals and EU citizens. It explores themes such as labour migration, asylum, integration, and citizenship within a multi-level governance framework. MIPEX is referenced as a comparative tool for assessing national integration strategies. The authors offer a critical perspective on policy effectiveness and public attitudes towards migration across Europe.
This peer-reviewed paper analyses Romanian emigration from 2007 to 2023 using regression models. It finds that economic factors, especially wage gaps with the EU, are the main drivers. Education and inflation have some influence, while political instability and the MIPEX index show minimal impact. The study suggests that improving wages at home is key to reducing emigration.
The study refers to Japan’s low MIPEX rating to highlight the broader policy context in which Thai migrant women experience health transitions. MIPEX is used to underscore that Japan lacks strong integration policies for migrants, which contributes to limited health data and support systems. This framing helps explain why long-term residence in Japan is associated with declining health outcomes among Thai migrant women, despite more frequent health checkups.
This article examines the experiences of Ukrainian refugees across Europe using data from the Voice of Ukraine survey. It highlights disparities in settlement and integration shaped by national policies. MIPEX is referenced to illustrate how integration frameworks differ between countries. Findings show that policy environments significantly affect refugee mobility and outcomes.
In Europe and its Others (IMISCOE Research Series, Springer, 2025), both Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 highlight the role of knowledge production in EU integration policy. Chapter 4 examines how EU institutions frame integration, noting the influence of initiatives such as MIPEX and NIEM. Chapter 5 explores research–policy collaborations, again citing MIPEX as a key example of indicator-based evidence shaping EU debates. Together, they show how MIPEX functions as an important reference point in the EU’s integration discourse and evidence ecosystem.
