February MIPEX in Use
MIPEX is a unique tool which measures integration policies in 56 countries across 8 policy areas. It provides up-to-date, comprehensive research data and analysis on which to base policies, proposals for change and projects.
Besides data on national integration policies, MPG now also gather data on policies at the regional – Regin (MIPEX-R) – and local levels – Whole-COMM (MIPEX-L).
This article examines gender differences in completed fertility among first-generation migrants across Germany, Austria, Denmark, Norway and Sweden using Generations and Gender Survey (2020–2023) data. The authors also draw on MIPEX as one of several sources to describe national integration contexts. They find that migrant women’s fertility often mirrors that of natives, especially in Nordic countries, while migrant men face much higher risks of remaining childless. These gaps are linked to national integration contexts and welfare systems, showing how more inclusive settings support women’s family formation but do not fully offset migration-related disruption for men.
From Policy to Practice: How Schools Support Newly Arrived Migrant Students
A new systematic review examines how schools across Europe translate migrant integration policies into everyday practice for newly arrived students. While MIPEX plays a key role in monitoring national education and integration frameworks, this research highlights what happens beyond policy scores: how schools interpret, adapt, and enact these policies on the ground. Drawing on 35 studies, the review shows that schools act as crucial mediators of integration, but are often constrained by limited resources and unclear guidance, pointing to the need for stronger systemic support and investment in inclusive education
Language Requirements and Learning Environments for Adult Migrants
This new study explores how language requirements for residence and citizenship shape adult migrant education in Greece and Italy, with a specific focus on LESLLA learners, adults with low or no literacy skills. Drawing on surveys and interviews with teachers, the research highlights how testing regimes influence classroom practices, redefine teachers’ roles, and affect the emotional climate of learning environments. The article also makes reference to MIPEX within its broader discussion of national integration policies.
