The is a unique tool which measures integration policies in 56 countries across 8 policy areas. It provides up-to-date, comprehensive research data and analysis on which to base policies, proposals for change and projects.
Besides data on national integration policies, MPG now also gather data on policies at the regional – Regin (MIPEX-R) – and local levels – Whole-COMM (MIPEX-L).
Concerns about immigration and demand for social protection: The implications of political regimes
This article investigates how concerns about immigration affect support for social protection, depending on the type of political regime. In authoritarian contexts, such concerns tend to increase support for welfare, as migrants are often excluded from benefits. In democracies, they are more likely to reduce support, reflecting an “anti-solidarity effect.”
Using World Values Survey data from 42 countries and the MIPEX index, the study shows that migrant inclusion is strongly linked to democratic governance. MIPEX helps illustrate how rights-based integration policies shape public attitudes.
The demographic divide: inequalities in ageing across the European Union
By 2050, most EU countries will see a shrinking workforce and a surge in the 85+ population, with Eastern and Southern regions ageing fastest – deepening inequalities. Improved migrant integration could ease the impact, but many Eastern EU countries rank low on the Migrant Integration Policy Index (MIPEX), with immigrants facing more barriers where populations are smaller and anti-immigration sentiment is stronger.
