MPG shares early MIPEX 2024 findings on Germany’s labour market integration

Berlin, 3 May 2025 – The Migration Policy Group presented early findings from MIPEX 2024 at the “Migration Matters for European Economic Growth” workshop, highlighting Germany’s performance in labour market integration.
Organised by the European Liberal Forum with support from the Friedrich Naumann Foundation Türkiye Office, the event brought together municipal leaders, civil society representatives, and policymakers, including MEP Jan-Christoph Oetjen, to explore how migration policies can promote inclusive and sustainable growth across Europe.
Representing MPG, Dr. Başak Yavçan, Head of Research, delivered insights during the session “Germany as a Model? Lessons from Migration Policy & Integration Efforts.” Her presentation focused on Germany’s Labour Market Integration, one of the strongest-performing policy areas in MIPEX 2024. Germany currently ranks 4th in the EU in this domain, with a score of 81/100.
The session, which also featured Claudia Koehler, from the Farafina Institute, discussed how Germany’s recent reforms – such as the Fachkräfteeinwanderungsgesetz and Chancenkarte – are shaping migrant access to employment. Remaining challenges were also addressed, including unequal access for specific migrant groups, barriers in the recognition of foreign qualifications, and the time-limited nature of certain policies.
MPG’s input to the workshop aligns with its mission to support evidence-based policymaking and highlight the need for better alignment between national migration frameworks and local realities.
The full MIPEX update for Germany will be presented on 26 May 2025 and published on the MIPEX website.
