MIPEX is a unique tool which measures integration policies in 56 countries across 8 policy areas. It provides up-to-date, comprehensive research data and analysis on which to base policies, proposals for change and projects.
Besides data on national integration policies, MPG now also gather data on policies at the regional – Regin (MIPEX-R) – and local levels – Whole-COMM (MIPEX-L).
The Self-Employment Gap Between Immigrants and Natives in Europe: Dynamics and Drivers
This study examines the self-employment gap between immigrants and natives in Europe, exploring how it evolves over time and how economic conditions, migrant composition, and institutional factors shape differences in entrepreneurial activity across countries. It highlights the role of MIPEX as a key indicator of integration policy quality, showing that more inclusive policies contribute to reducing this gap by facilitating migrants’ access to employment and opportunities beyond necessity-driven self-employment.
This article examines poverty dynamics among young children of immigrants in Sweden and Finland, showing that they face significantly higher and more persistent risks of poverty, mainly driven by a greater likelihood of falling into poverty rather than remaining in it. It also highlights that, despite Sweden and Finland ranking highest on MIPEX for integration policies, substantial inequalities persist, pointing to a gap between strong policy frameworks and actual outcomes.
