Testimonial – 30 Jahre Migration Policy Group (MPG)

I first became involved with the Migration Policy Group about ten years ago, when I joined the Migrant Integration Hub (formerly the European Website on Integration). Since then, I have had the privilege of being part of a project that has grown remarkably – both in terms of professionalism and reach. What started as a resource platform has developed into a widely recognised reference point for policy makers, practitioners, and researchers alike. This progress would not have been possible without the MPG’s thoughtful coordination and expertise, which have given the project direction, quality, and credibility.

What makes MPG unique to me is its ability to bring together independent experts from all EU Member States. This is not just a network, but a living exchange of perspectives, experiences, and insights that simply does not exist elsewhere. The annual meetings in particular have always been moments of genuine dialogue – where we learn from each other, compare practices, and sometimes challenge our assumptions. In times when migration and integration are subject to polarisation and oversimplification, this diversity of perspectives is more than valuable – it is essential. MPG’s added value lies not only in connecting people, but also in building bridges between research, policy, and practice. By creating spaces for evidence-based dialogue, MPG ensures that inclusive societies are not just a vision, but a concrete goal that can be worked towards across borders. The organisation provides both the structure and the inspiration to do so. Looking to the future, I believe MPG’s role will become even more important. Europe and the world are undergoing profound changes – social, political, and technological. In this context, promoting perspective diversity, sharing best practices, and raising awareness of the complex realities of migration societies will be crucial. Projects such as the Migrant Integration Hub are indispensable for fostering constructive debate, for strengthening democratic resilience, and for ensuring that inclusion remains at the heart of European cooperation.

Congratulations on 30 years of tireless commitment, and thank you for making such a vital contribution to Europe’s research and policy community. I am proud to be part of this journey and look forward to continuing our collaboration in the years to come.
