Head of Research

Başak is MPG’s Head of Research. She is responsible for all of MPG’s research activities and research agenda development. She conducts comparative analyses of migration and integration statistics and policies at the national (see, the MIPEX and HumMingBird) and local level (see, REGIN and Whole-COMM).

Başak holds a PhD from the University of Pittsburgh, Department of Political Science. She has conducted research at Michigan University’s Interuniversity Consortium for Political and Social Research, New York University, Northwestern University’s Buffett Institute for Global Affairs, TOBB University of Economics & Technology in Turkey, and at the Hugo Observatory of the University of Liege. Yavçan’s research focuses on comparative refugee integration policies, inter-group relations and public opinion, particularly regarding refugee integration immigrant acculturation attitudes and environmental drivers of migration.
