Participatory Policymaking

In this section on participatory policymaking, we explore how new Europeans, particularly those with migration backgrounds, can be more meaningfully involved in the policy process. Drawing from insights gained through interviews with new European leaders across the EU, we identify key obstacles they face, such as limited resources, information, and networks, which hinder their civic and political participation. To address these challenges, we advocate for inclusive and migrant-led engagement in policy development, ensuring that the voices of those directly affected by policies are heard. This includes fostering a civic space for migrant-led organizations, establishing consultative bodies, and promoting co-production of legislation. By doing so, we aim to close the participation gap and create more democratic, effective policymaking.
